Rose Flavoured Heart Shaped Til Peda

#SLC Til peda is a traditional, energy-packed Indian sweet primarily made from sesame seeds (til) and sugar. It is especially popular in northern India during the winter months and festivals such as Makar Sankranti and Lohri, due to its warming properties.

Step 1

Spread the sesame seeds under sunlight for half an hour.

Step 2

In a wok, dry roast the sesame seeds on low heat until they turn slightly golden and release a beautiful aroma.

Step 3

Allow the sesame seeds to cool completely.

Step 4

Transfer the sesame seeds to a mixer jar, setting aside 3–4 tablespoons for garnishing later.

Step 5

Coarsely grind the remaining sesame seeds and set them aside.

Step 6

In a wok, cook the mawa on low to medium flame.

Step 7

Once the mawa melts and turns slightly golden, turn off the flame.

Step 8

Let the mawa cool until it’s lukewarm.

Step 9

Add the ground sesame seeds and desi khand to the mawa also add whole sesame seeds.

Step 10

Mix in the rose essence and rose petals at the same time.

Step 11

Combine all the ingredients thoroughly.

Step 12

Grease a heart-shaped mould with ghee, take a small portion of the mawa mixture, and press it into the mould.

Step 13

Carefully remove the peda from the mould.

Step 14

Repeat the process to prepare all the pedas.

Step 15

Garnish each peda with pistachio flakes and rose petals.
