A tasty nutritional dish prepared using the rice harvested during the month of January in earthen pots.

Step 1

Soak dal and rice together for at least an hour in water so that cooking is faster and some fuel is saved.

Step 2

Pressure cook Dal n rice in 5 cups of water with, salt, 2 teaspoons of ghee. for one whistle ,on low flame, in the small gas burner.

Step 3

In a vok add remaining ghee.

Step 4

Add jeera, pepper powder, curry leaves ,grated ginger.

Step 5

Next add cashews.Roast till light brown.

Step 6

Add the rice dal mixture.

Step 7

Mix well and your pongal is ready. Adding roasted cashew is optional.
