Sattu is referred to as a nutritional powerhouse in India and is quite a popular ingredient during the Summers that are just unbearable and sucks out all your energy. Using sattu as the base of a hydrating drink for summers can help you revive your energy and feel refreshed.

If you have no idea what sattu is, let’s give you a brief idea of what it is and where you find it. So, sattu is a famous variety of flour that is used in India, Nepal, Tibet, and Pakistan, and it happens to be a mixture of a lot of roasted cereals and ground pulses. Sattu is turned into a dry powder, which is prepared from this mixture and is used to make a lot of other dishes. Most often, it is made by roasting Bengal gram and barley, and it is a very nutritious flour. It is considered extremely healthy to consume cooling sattu drinks during the summer season since it gives the body a lot of warmth.

This protein-rich flour, which is used to make a common dish in Jharkhand, Bihar, Punjab, Uttarakhand and UP, is still due to get its credit in the health food market. This low-profile dish, sattu, has often been referred to as ‘Poor man’s protein’. According to its origin, this dish is said to have originated in Tibet and was known as ‘Tsampa’. It was supposed to be the staple for monks who then travelled on foot from place to place. This superfood is also mentioned in the Holy Quran, and was then known as ‘Saweeq’ (barley Sattu). This lesser-known summer cooler is also used to make many dishes like paratha, litti chokha, Daal baati churma, porridge etc along being consumed in the form of sharbat too.

As the scorching summer temperatures rise, it’s crucial to stay hydrated and refreshed. Packed with protein, fibre, and cooling properties, sattu is a perfect choice to beat the summer heat.
