Tikhur is a traditional and valuable natural forest product of Chhattisgarh. It is a pure starch or extract prepared from the roots (tubers) of a plant belonging to the turmeric family (Curcuma angustifolia – also known as Indian essence or East Indian era root). This plant is found naturally in abundance in the forests of the tribal areas of Bastar, Surguja, and Jaspur in Chhattisgarh. #ds26

Step 1

In a deep vessel, add water to the tikhur powder and mix it with a spoon or hand. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Now carefully separate the water from the top. Then add water again and keep it aside.

Step 2

Repeat this process 2-3 times to remove any impurities. Heat the milk in a thick bottom pan. Add the tikhur and keep stirring with a spoon.

Step 3

Now add sugar and cardamom powder and keep stirring with a spoon on medium flame. When it thickens and starts gathering in the pan, spread it on a greased plate. Add dry fruits on top. Once it cools down, cut the delicious tikhur into desired shapes.
